H0m3 sW33t H0m3!

A few things have happened since I've posted last! On Thursday I went to a basement show with Beth on Poland Street. It was really fun! Hessian, Barnburner & Waranimal all played. I've seen Waranimal a few times now. Always good.

My friend Christy came up to Portland to visit me & Derek from NH. She brought her boyfriend so we could meet him! We loved him. The four of us went out to the new Chipotle in South Portland...Yum. We got back to the apartment and had a few people over... you should have come! It was a fun night, but it ended early! I was ready for bed because I had to wake up early and work this morning!

I had a few really great clients today! One person I did for the first time and then another client that I've been doing since April! Love her! Walked home after work and my parents picked me up and brought me to Cabelas! Came home and now I'm watching M. Night Shyamalan's DEVIL!

Gym & shopping with Maggie tomorrow!

Happy New Year!

It's been so long since my last post! Six months! Anyways, one of my new years resolutions was to keep this up to date! As much as I can anyways...

Also, this will no longer just be a blog about my job. I'm going to start posting updates about my life outside of work as well!

Let's start off with some pictures from the new year!

Sara Hallie Richardson! Live Acoustic Set at Flatbread a few days ago! Too bad I didn't get any pictures of her playing, my awesome salad OR Derek's yummy pizza! I went on a triple date with two of my good friends that I work with! I had so much fun...

Thursday... one of my days off from work! Today I woke up, called work and booked myself a hair appointment! So glad I did! I was really needing it. Spent a few hours there and then Derek met me downtown for coffee. It was really nice, but super cold! Walked over to Find on Free Street and bought a really cute black Free Peoples skirt for $12! What a deal! Then we went over to Material Objects on Congress Street and that's where I bought these amazing boots!

I was so excited when I saw them! I just sent a bunch of my boots to the cobbler and wont have them back until the end of January so I'm delighted to have a new pair!

My plan for tonight is to go to a show on Poland Street with my friend Beth! Neither of us have cars so we are taking the bus...

COFF33 COFF33 COFF33!1one!11!

Thanks to Bard Coffee for their delicious Iced Soy Chai & speedy internet connection for making this blog possible! They are located right next to Akari on Middle Street and it's my favorite little spot to get some extra energy for my busy days!

I <3 Justin & Jeremy.

Oh! & they just started serving gelato! I tried their vegan Chocolate Noir at 9:30 this morning. BEST BREAKFAST EVER!

Hair Through the Decades! Twenties & Thirties

Join Akari this Friday, June 4th, from 5-8 at our salon for the First Friday Art Walk. Our team has put together an amazing collection of hair, fashion and jazz straight out of the twenties. The stylists will be doing hair in the shop windows as the night progresses and also talking about the era to passerby's. Come check it out! If you can't make it this month be sure to visit us in either July or August for more hair through the decades!

Last night we had a quick trial run to get us ready for Friday and things went swimmingly! I can't wait to show off our work!

Fiery RED RED RED!

I've been wanting to do a vibrant red on someone for a long time! I was so excited when my friend Elizabeth mentioned that she was thinking about it. She has been seeing me for color for a while now and we've done a bunch of crazy color on her, but this one is definitely my favorite. With the pink tones she has in her skin naturally and the make up and style she has it all just suits her!

The Logistics!
She came in with previously colored hair (obviously!) at about a level 6, a medium brown, so we had to pre-lighten her to get our red really vibrant. Used lightener with 30 volume on her colored hair and left her re-growth till later. Once her mids and ends were flaming orange I took her to the sink and mixed up a bleach wash and just lightened her roots a bit! Then back to the chair, blow dried and ready for the next step! Applied about a level 6 and a half copper gold color at her roots and did something called a signature application on her ends! I pulled pieces of her background color through and also some darker copper pieces as well. I left one of her blond-ish pieces out in the front to add a little POP!

Even though Elizabeth had a definite idea of what she wanted done for color I love that she gave me complete creative reign over the project... "I trust you!" she says and I'm so glad because when you give an artist an idea, but allow them to interpret it as their own you get a personalized piece of art the displays both of your styles simultaneously!
